Placenta encapsulation involves the cooking, dehydrating, pulverizing, and encasing of the placenta inside unflavored vegetarian gel capsules. Placenta prints are as unique as the placentas that mirror them, but they generally look like trees. Prints can be made using only blood as the ink or with any preferred color for an added effect. Color prints are made with bright acrylic paints, using a protective barrier to keep the placenta safe for encapsulation. Cord keepsakes come with any encapsulation service, as the cord is dehydrated along with the placenta, and can be in a variety of shapes according to preference. The placenta 'broth' is really the water from the steaming process for encapsulation. The placenta is suspended above the water during steaming, so there are not any large pieces of placenta in the resulting broth. Rather, the broth contains ginger and some nutrients and essence from the placenta. Tinctures are made using a small piece of placenta and high proof vodka. Not for the immediate postpartum, these tinctures take up to 6 weeks to cure and are generally used for later in life transitions, such as weaning, menstruation, and menopause. A smoothie can be made during the first or second visit of the encapsulation process.
